Werner & Mertz was again awarded a prize for social responsibility

In Berlin, the Mainz-based producer of detergents and well-known brands such as Frosch and Erdal was awarded the “Tafelteller” (food bank prize) by the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e.V. (German Federal Food Bank Association) for the second time.

The Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel celebrated its 20th anniversary in Berlin under the slogan „Salvaging Food, Helping those in Need: Foodbanks in the Days of the Refugee Crisis". At this festive event, Günter Scheinkönig, Managing Director of the Erdal-Rex sales company of Werner & Mertz, was presented the "Tafelteller" by Jochen Brühl, Chairman of the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e.V., for the second time since 2014.

The „Tafelteller" is awarded to companies supporting the well over 900 foodbanks throughout Germany by donating food and other every-day necessities. The foodbanks and their 60,000 volunteers take care of well over 1.5 million people in need in Germany, about one third of whom are children and adolescents. The German foodbanks are charitable organisations which are mainly funded by donations. Jochen Brühl honoured the responsibility of companies, such as Werner & Mertz, at the award ceremony by saying "The commitment of so many companies is the foundation on which food bank volunteers can do a lot of good".

The food donated by companies enables the food banks to make a significant contribution to a balanced diet and to offer those in need a little financial leeway and room for more social inclusion. Charitable volunteers are not only keen on food donations, but they also collect and distribute daily necessities, such as the trusted FROSCH brand products of Werner & Mertz: dishwashing liquids, as well as household and laundry detergents are much welcome.

Günter Scheinkönig explained the longstanding commitment of Werner & Mertz as follows: "With our donation we would also like to give socially disadvantaged people the opportunity to do their household cleaning with sustainable products". The Managing Director of Erdal-Rex added: "The more companies are committed to food banks, the more people can be helped. Support is particularly needed now that hundreds of thousands of refugees are turning to food banks for help". Werner & Mertz recently donated 140 pallets of FROSCH detergents amounting to EUR 190,000 to the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e.V.
