A chance to try out and find out on Technology Day

22 Nov 2017 - Mainz - Company-News

The technical trainees from Werner & Mertz showed how fascinating and varied their jobs are and spoke about good career prospects at Technology Day on ILW premises (Industrie-Institut für Lehre und Weiterbildung) in Mainz.

About 1200 students and pupils set a new attendance record at this year's Technology Day. Young people from more than 20 schools in Mainz and Rhine-Hessen took advantage of the opportunity to collect information from the 40 exhibiting companies about occupations that require technical training.
At the Werner & Mertz stand the visitors put their manual dexterity to the test in hands-on activities. They had to saw, file and drill to make a keychain or prove their electronics know-how by putting together an electrical circuit. Six current trainees were at their side not only to offer help but also to show what they have learned to do.
While they were trying out some jobs, the young people easily fell into conversation with the technical trainees and could then get some information about the company in a relaxed atmosphere. They also had the chance to apply to Werner & Mertz for training places and internships.

"Technical training offers so many chances both during and after the training period. We want to make students aware of that and generate interest for technical jobs," said Ralf Zimmermann, Director of Technical Training at Werner & Mertz. "The career opportunities for skilled technicians are excellent," added Stephanie Gabler, Director of Group Human Resources.
To ensure successful training of its future technicians, Werner & Mertz offers some extras, including manual skills training and practical exercises in small teams. While they are in technical training the trainees may also participate in advanced training courses.

Technology Day is jointly sponsored by IHK Rheinhessen and the ILW. The objective is to acquaint young people from secondary schools with the variety of technical occupations and the training options available in the region.

Again in 2018 Werner & Mertz will offer training in technical jobs such as electronics technician for automation technology and industrial mechanic. Training begins on 1 August 2018. Applications are still being accepted.
