German Pavilion shows vision of a sustainable, circular society

Under the motto Designing Future Society for Our Lives, countries from around the world come together from 13 April to 13 October 2025 at the Expo in Osaka to discuss how to achieve the Sustainability Goals of the United Nations. The German Pavilion is dedicated to the circular economy which ought to close material cycles completely and radically reduce resource consumption.

The German Pavilion encourages everyone to think about circular solutions. What will cities look like in the future? How will Germany reach zero emissions? What role does digital technology play? How will energy be provided in a circular economy? With best-practice innovations “Made in Germany”, the pavilion shows how the vision of a sustainable, circular society can be realized.

: The way through the pavilion is circular too. It begins in the Biosphere Intro, leads through immersive rooms to Circular Living, Circular Economy and Circular Me, and ends in the Biosphere Outro. (c) German Expo Pavilion.

In the center of the circular economy space, a giant mobile of 60 luminous, amorphous spheres slowly spins over the visitors’ heads. Each object represents a business sector—construction, chemistry, mobility, lifestyle, food and personal care—and symbolizes a circular product or innovation.

The mobile expands in the digital space. An enormous projection screen portrays the spheres as an infinite galaxy meandering through space. (c) German Expo Pavilion / facts and fiction | GL events | lava

The central media table below the mobile presents 30 circular products and innovations that come from Germany. Through their interaction with the table, visitors can immerse themselves in the cosmos of the circular economy. Around the table are six separate interaction areas where visitors can learn about the products presented.

The combined real and digital staging creates a comprehensive picture of the circular economy’s potential and conveys the innovative strength and forward-looking solutions from Germany.
